What type of prior experience do I need to have?
We look for candidates who have an aptitude for sales, customer service, and business management or franchise ownership skills. However, it is not necessary to have previous experience in the confections industry. Regardless of your skills or background, we will provide the tools and training you need to run your own Fannie May stores.

How do I get started?

Next we will discuss your qualifications and development plans. Once you have been pre-qualified based on your full application, you would receive our Franchise Disclosure Document with further details on the opportunity. Then, there will be territory discussions and Discovery Day meetings at the corporate office before making the final decisions.

How much will the Fannie May franchise investment cost me?
The estimated required investment for a start-up franchise ranges between $210,800 and $389,000 and includes your initial franchise fee, leasehold improvements, equipment costs, training costs, opening inventory and working capital.  A detailed investment breakdown can be found in our 2011 Franchise Disclosure Document.

Does Fannie May offer both single and multi-unit franchise opportunities?
Yes, Fannie May is looking for franchise partners to develop markets across the country.  We prefer candidates that can develop multiple stores within a particular territory but are open to discussing single unit development opportunities in selected markets. 

How much is the royalty rate and advertising fees?
Our royalty rate is 5% and is built into the cost of propriety products that you will purchase to operate your Fannie May store.  The advertising fund contribution is $600 per month plus an additional 1% for local advertising.

How much is the initial franchise fee or development fee for multiple units?
The initial franchise fee is $40,000 for your first store.  If you sign up for multiple stores, then we will discount the franchisee fee to $30,000 for the additional stores purchased under a development agreement. The development fee is based on the number of stores to be developed in a particular area. The development fee is equal to 100% of the first Fannie May store ($40,000), plus a deposit of $20,000 multiplied by the number of additional Fannie May stores you agree to develop during the development period. For each additional Store developed under the Area Development Agreement, we will apply a pro rata portion of the Development Fee ($20,000) toward the Initial Franchise Fee for that Store and the balance of the Initial Franchise Fee ($10,000) is payable to us in a lump sum not later than 30 days before the Store is scheduled to open.

What will I receive as part of the Fannie May franchise system?
You and your operating partner or general manager will have up to a week of training at our headquarters. Plus, we will provide up to five days of help at your own location around the time of your Grand Opening. You will have access to all Fannie May chocolates and related products and other exclusive operational tools. You will also receive marketing support and exposure through current and continual marketing efforts conducted by our corporate offices. And, of course you will receive Fannie May's operations manual which covers the day to day details of operating your business.

Is financing available?
We do not offer direct financing to franchisees. We may be able to provide references to qualified financing or lending agencies, on a case-by-case basis.

What is the term of the franchise agreement?
The initial term of your franchise agreement is five years, with two subsequent five-year renewal terms.
